DescriptionElectrician at pulverised coal fan feeders at Mines Power Station. This was the first power station to use pulverised coal as the fuel for the boilers. Up until then the coal was fed into the boiler on a travelling grate. This was inefficient and did not obtain the maximum heating ability of the fuel. The Fuller Bonnett system pulverised the coal to fine powder form and then was fed into the Force Draft fan and entered the boiler as a fine dust and air mixture. This gave complete combustion and obtained maximum heat energy from the coal. This complete combustion left a fine ash some times referred to as "fly ash". This by product was used to make masonry bloaks called sinder blocks.
