DescriptionThe Dwight Lloyd sinter plant is the first part of the smelting process. The lead concentrate from the Mill is dried and then mixed with other materias such as coke and limestone. This was made into cakes that were carried through an oven on travelling grates. This burned off the sulphur in the lead concentrate. This was then discharged through the 6 chutes into a charge car with coke and other materials. This was then taken to the blast furnace for smelting into crude lead.RightsPublic DomainCollectionReginald O'BrienSubjectMiningMining Sites
